About the Class

Hi! I'm Mrs. Reyes. Welcome to my class!   I have over ten years of experience working at Metro (as we affectionately reference our school).  I specifically chose to work in a continuation school because it is my strong belief that education changes lives and should be accessible and equitable to all. Kids who attend Metro come from backgrounds full of obstacles and difficulties, but I passionately believe change can come with support in the form of accountability and encouragement.

My hope for my students is to build the skills needed for further academic or vocational studies. I hope for them to become competitive candidates for future careers, and I work to establish strong academic skills such as: analytical writing and reading, critical thinking skills, and professional speaking skills. I hold my students to high standards. I am a National Board Certified Teacher, hold a Masters degree in Administration, a Bachelors degree in English, and I am a certified Advance Placement English teacher.

I enjoy laughing with my students, planning field trips, watching my students "get it", and being a bossy pants. In my personal life, I enjoy camping, discovering our amazing city, and eating with friends. I grew up in Hawaii, and I'm the oldest of seven.

I asked my students to summarize me in few words, and they suggested the following: supportive, blunt, helpful, terrifying, caring, straight up, generous, and hardworking.  I think they are accurate.
